My boyfriend gave me homework to write a song about our relationship. I wanted to share it here so here you go.

Paradoxical Tesseract 

Why this title

When I think of the word “tesseract”, (spoiler alert) it takes me to the scene in Interstellar when Cooper was trapped in the Tesseract and had access to the different events/timelines of the past. Alongside this, in Physics, a Tesseract is also known as the 4th dimensional shape called the hypercube. To me, even though we physically live in a 3 dimensional space, philosophically we have access to the 4th dimension of time in a mental capacity. That is, we all have access to the past, present and multiple possibilities of the future. 

With both of these perspectives in mind, I view our relationship within a Tesseract where we can both access our pasts like Cooper, understand the consequences of our actions of the past and the present in order to be able to build our relationship into a place where it can survive and thrive. It is more of a symbolism that is similar to how the story played out in Interstellar which is that Cooper left behind an Earth that was dying and took the risk to leave his family behind to find a new planet for humans to live on but when he was trapped in the Tesseract, he was able to save humanity through his daughter (the future). 

By adding “paradoxical” to the title, I imagine a Tesseract that can both collapse inwardly on itself while simultaneously expanding externally in the physical world. Therefore, the full title reflects our relationship because, although we both struggle internally or can potentially collapse into ourselves due to our past and present, we help each other expand/grow in the external world. We’ve also saved one another from the barren world of our past where we’ve always felt alone by building something new, lasting and safe despite the challenges.
