1
Winter left the earth;
Silent beneath silver skies,
Branches bowed in prayer.
2
Then the thaw arrived,
Rain whispering through the soil
Like forgotten hymns.
3
Tiny blossoms woke,
Pushing through the fading frost
Toward the gentled sun.
4
Blue jays crossed the dawn,
Bright as fragments of the sky
Scattered through the pines.
5
Canadian geese
Sang above the waking fields
In wandering lines.
6
Chipmunks stirred once more,
Quick among the thawing roots,
Small sparks born of spring.
7
Birdsong filled the morn,
Soft beyond the open glass,
Sweet as flowing streams.
8
Cats sleep in the light,
Golden warmth upon their fur,
Dreaming in stillness.
9
Lilacs breathed anew,
Perfume drifting through the wind
Like the ghosts of rain.
10
Every bloom returned
From the grave of winter’s sleep,
Tender and reborn.
11
Spring performs its rites
Not with candles, ash or bone,
But with light and thaw.
12
The earth resurrects
Through soft necromancy sung
By the hands of dawn.
